Intermediary Organizations – Infrastruktur für die Wissens- und Informationsgesellschaft
- October 11, 2010, 6:15 p.m.
- Otfried Jarren: Pro-Rector for the Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Journalism, University of Zürich
Each form of society is existentially dependent on institutional infrastructures. In mobile, cultural as well as economically plural and diversely networked societies we depend on powerful organizations. Intermediary organizations in particular – like parties, associations and mass media – are accorded special importance for the preservation and development of modern societies: they are places of reflection, act as mediators and enable social exchange. In the knowledge or information society, however, the media is becoming increasingly important.
