Environmental & Climate Protection
The Telekom Austria Group has incorporated environmental and climate protection in its CSR strategy. Modern information and communications technology (ICT) can make a valuable contribution to environmental and climate protection and play a major role in the development of a "low carbon economy": Our networks provide for fast and safe data traffic and thus take the load off the highways. Business trips can be reduced through video conference systems. Travel to and from the workplace can be reduced thanks to telepresence and mobile working. The mobility of the data reduces both the need for our physical presence and CO2 emissions considerably.
Speaking of CO2: In Austria as a member of the WWF Climate Group we have the goal of saving 15 percent of CO2 emissions or 15,000 tons of CO2 by 2012. We more than met this goal in the first year alone: CO2 emissions could be reduced by roughly 40 percent or 33,000 tons. Thanks to a sophisticated energy saving package.
On the subject of energy efficiency: In Slovenia at our company Si.mobil energy efficiency takes center stage. Si.mobil customers can currently choose from a versatile portfolio of solar-operated end-devices and charging units. The Si.mobil "Re.misli" (Re.think) label signalizes that the selected product is energy efficient. For 2011 Si.mobil has set the goal of developing at least one "green" mobile application (app) that shall help to lower the individual carbon footprint.
Thus, we continue to commit ourselves to be energy efficient and to use our resources in an environmentally friendly and climate friendly way.
