Industry-Led Initiatives

The Telekom Austria Group is a member of ETNO and GSM Association. Telekom Austria Group also shapes and participates in relevant initiatives developed and implemented by the telecommunications industry.

ETNO was established in May 1992 and has become the principal policy group for European electronic communications network operators. ETNO's primary purpose is to establish a constructive dialogue between its member companies and decision-makers and other actors involved in the development of the European Information Society.

The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organizations. The GSMA also produces industry-leading events such as the Mobile World Congress and Mobile Asia Congress.

We support these GSMA initiatives:

Mobile Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse Content
Sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children have gained increasingly public attention throughout the past few decades and have become some of the most high-profile crimes. To help combat the availability and distribution of child sexual abuse content, GSMA launched the “Mobile Alliance against Child Sexual Abuse Content” in 2008. Its goal is to obstruct the use of mobile networks by individuals or organizations to access or to profit from child sexual abuse content. We are a founding member of the Mobile Alliance.

Green Manifesto
The "Mobile Green Manifesto" backs the commitment of the telecommunication industry to make a major contribution to the fight against global warming. It shows the dedication of the industry to improve its own energy efficiency and as well as to enable other sectors to do the same. More specifically, the “Mobile Green Manifesto” sets out how our industry intends to lower its greenhouse gas emissions per connection and how it supports other sectors to follow its example.

The Telekom Austria Group supports initiatives in this context such as the GSMA’s Mobile Energy Efficiency (MEE). It should measure the energy consumption and contribute to proactively reduce CO2 emissions. Additionally we have set a wide range of initiatives to support environment and climate protection.

Mobile Privacy Guidelines
New devices and enhanced capabilities lead to massive changes in how people communicate these days. Some of these new patterns include that people can be reached at any time as well as that information can be accessed anywhere also through cloud services.

The evolution of the digital industry goes hand in hand with an increasing challenge to control and to protect privacy in a connected world.

Our target is to ensure that privacy for our customers is safeguarded. To this end we support the GSMA initiatives on privacy guidelines.

Privacy design guidelines for mobile applications
GSMA published a set of global privacy design guidelines for mobile applications. They aim to provide users with better transparency, choice and control over how apps use their personal information. In February 2012 we committed ourselves together with further mobile operators to implementing these guidelines for our own branded mobile applications.
